Greetings and welcome to my online portfolio! My name is Will Trent and I am currently a student in James Madison University's Hart School of Hospitality, Sport and Recreation Management. I am pursuing a Master's Degree in Campus Recreation Leadership while serving as the Graduate Assistant for Marketing & Social Media with James Madison University Recreation. My passion for talent development, willingness to grow in the field of multimedia design, and experience in the realm of marketing combines to serve as a unique skill set. As I anticipate graduation in May 2017, I am more than excited to endure the job search and prepare for future endeavors.
My aspiration to obtain a full-time marketing role on a college campus stems from the enjoyment of work experience and development as a college student myself. From 2010 to 2014, I attended Virginia Tech where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Public Relations). It was in my academic pursuits that I found a passion for the work of communications/marketing teams on college campuses and the impact they can have on the student body, faculty, and general community. My experience as an Athletics Marketing Intern helped me gain an understanding for the day to day operations and event management duties of a collegiate athletic venue. My experience with Virginia Tech Recreational Sports as a Marketing Assistant and Facilities Supervisor helped me grow as an individual through student development initiatives as well as understand the relevance for promoting wellness as a key contributor to the growth of the college student.
After receiving my bachelor's degree, my career took me to Durham, North Carolina. I served as a Marketing Assistant for Duke University's Recreation and Physical Education department. In this position, I was able to conceptualize the inner workings of what it takes to be a thriving professional in the collegiate recreation field. The year of exposure provided me with a full scale perspective of marketing deliverables and strategy as well.
My pursuit of collegiate recreation and marketing has brought me to JMU, where I've been able to capitalize on my time to improve my strengths and grow in areas of weakness. My career path has been strategically aligned to set myself up for a professional position in the marketing realm on a college campus because I believe that if you enjoy what you do, you'll never work a day in your life.
